Circulation
The Library is open to students, faculty, staff, and to those individuals who wish to use materials inside the Library. Individuals participating in the TexShare Card Program with valid IDs are granted the same access to our collection as the Paul Quinn College community with exceptions to the Ethnic Cultural Collection and African American Titles.
Zale Library cards are valid for the duration of a student s matriculation and/or the employment of faculty and staff at the college. Alumni are encouraged to continue their affiliation with the college through continued use of their library cards. Applications are available at registration each semester and on this site.
Users accept the responsibility for the use of the card including fines and fees incurred. Each user will abide by the rules and regulations, report the loss of his/her card, and/or any changes to their patron information.
Special Borrowers: Community, students enrolled in summer programs, and reciprocal borrowers must present valid ID at the circulation desk for privileges.
Patrons may checkout five books from the open stacks with no more than three from a given subject area at one time.
Non-print materials (audio and video tapes, CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs) no more than three items at one time in any combination.
Non-circulating materials include reserve materials, periodicals theses, archive holdings, reference materials, and special collection materials.
Books are charged out for a period of two weeks (14 days) and can be renewed once. Non-print items (audio, video tapes, CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs) are charged out for a period of one day (24 hours). Loan periods may become shorter for any or all items that fall into one of the following categories: new materials; holds; recalls; items placed on reserve by a professor; end of semester. Reserve materials circulate within the library for a two-hour period unless otherwise stated by the instructor, in which case they may be charges out overnight. Reserve materials during high demand (mid-term and final exam) periods may be limited to a one-hour period.
Overdue notices are generated by the automated circulation system. Patrons are urged to return materials.
Fines and fees borrowers are subject to fines on items returned after the due date. Fines for print materials are calculated at ten cents ($.10) per item per day the library is opened. Fines for non-print items are calculated at $1.00 per day per item the library is open. Fines for recalled items are calculated at $1.00 per day per item each day the library is open. Damaged items depending on the format are assessed by library staff and charged accordingly. Full replacement of an item will result in a fine of the cost of the item and a processing fee. Lost items borrowers will be charged the cost of the item plus a processing fee of $25.00, plus overdue fines. Out of print items will be charged a fee of $50.00, plus fines.
Interlibrary loans may be requested from collections held at other academic, public, and special libraries throughout the state, and can be borrowed through TexShare Interlibrary Loan. The service is limited to general books and photocopies of periodical articles. Request will be filled within two to three weeks. Borrowers pay for the return postage on requested materials. Request forms are located at the circulation desk and on the website.

Services
Zale Library provides typewriters, photocopiers, scanning and faxing services for its patrons during regular library hours. Library patrons must be mindful of Copyright Code 17 when using these services.
Special Collections
The Adams Archives of Paul Quinn College is the colleges repository for the preservation of its history, the History of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Texas- The 10th Episcopal District. Visitors and researchers will also find the Bishop John Hurst Adams Collection of Art, and memorabilia of Paul Quinn College. The Archives is located on the second floor and is open on Mondays and Wednesday s from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. or by written request as needed. Visit (link to blog).
The Ethnic Cultural Center located in room 200 on the second floor of the library holds materials by and about the African American/Mexican American experience in these United States. The room may be reserved for meetings during regular library hours, and accommodates groups of 25-30.
The African American Educators Hall of Fame part of the African American Education Archives and History Program (AAEHP) is also located on the second floor of the library. Portraits of Dallas Educators inducted into the Hall of Fame are on display. The AAEHP is a valuable resource to those researching the history of the African American and education in the state of Texas. Student in the Division of Education are encouraged to take part in research, oral history interviews, internships at the African American Museum and other programs as part of the African American Education Archives and History Program.
The Hiawatha Williams Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership is located on the first floor and was dedicated and named in honor for distinguished alumnus, Hiawatha Williams, class of 1972, and founder of The Williams Chicken Franchise. The center serves students interested in entrepreneurship, hospitality, and business.
Special Book Collections donated to the college are located on the first floor of the library, they include the Ashley Sloan Collection of Christian Titles donated by the family of Ashley Sloan, and the Trammel Crow Book Collection of classics and art books.
